Sista Zai's Storytime (How Europe Underdeveloped Africa)
Sista Zai’s Storytime: How Europe Underdeveloped Africa#BlackBougieAndQuestioningCapitalism
This is a 6 week-long storytelling season hosted by @sistazai for her project, Flip The Script.
REGISTRATION CLOSES Sunday 14 April 2024.
The season runs from Sunday 21 April 2024 - Sunday 26 May 2024
WHAT TO EXPECT
We will mostly discuss the book "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" through specific works of Black Art (poetry, songs, visual art and short fiction) and art in general.
Throughout our journey, will focus on four questions:
- How has Africa made “First World” nations wealthy for over 500 years?
- What did Walter Rodney have to say in “How Europe Underdeveloped Africa”?
- Is Walter Rodney's work still relevant? Here we really dip into visual art, music, poetry and stories to ground into contemporary times and unpack.
- How can we use all of this learning to bring about transformation in our lives today - is this text still a useful guide for how to build collective care and thriving into how we do relationships, projects, business and approach any economic relationship?
THIS OFFERING IS FOR FOLKS WHO
❤️ centre Africa and Black creativity and philosophy in liberation work;
🖤 curious and ready to deepen critical thinking skills (value asking questions and exploration more than having “right” and “complete” answers);
💚 learn through storytelling, lived experience and art as much, if not more than textbooks and “experts”;
🍉 wish to join in and contribute (however you feel is most comfortable) as an equal in a collective learning/unlearning experience; and
🍉 seek to apply the knowledge and information learned to transform how they choose show up in the world vs learning in order to have new facts and stories to entertain folks at a dinner party or impress or debate to win an argument.

WHAT IS SLIDING SCALE?
Sliding scale is a practice of (bell hooks) Love and community care.
Sliding Scale rooted in Love looks like a commitment to economic solidarity - NOT charity.
Love looks like if you have more resources than most, under an unjust system you willingly and intentionally redistribute resources because you believe in shared enoughness over hoarding.
I trust you to make a decision that is equitable and rooted in truth.
Here's a helpful resource to guide you in your sliding scale decision-making.
You'll immediately receive one PDF guided journal/workbook and then access to six group-based storytelling sessions to explore additional materials. Immediately after our online sessions, I will add additional resources for the next week.
